Announcing Vanadius: Anniversary Edition!

I am pleased to share that I have been working on a drastically improved port of Vanadius to the Godot Engine! I was tired of not being able to edit the game (the project files seem to be broken in newer versions of Gamemaker), so I decided I would port it to a good engine instead. In the process, I made numerous much-needed improvements.

Some of these improvements include:

  • A map system! Keep track of which rooms you have visited and which you haven't
  • All new challenges and rooms
  • Full controller support and a native Linux version
  • Many rooms have been redesigned to be more forgiving and intuitive

This version of the game will release on July 31st (barring any unforeseen life events) and will be a paid release (about $2 USD). The current version will continue to be available for free as Vanadius Classic.

Q & A

Q. Why port to Godot?

A. I don't really like GameMaker and I wanted to have a version of the game that isn't tied to it. I really like Godot, which is why I chose it as the engine for the port

Q. Why is it a paid release?

A. So I can fund other games I want to make

Q. Will my old save files work?

A. Unfortunately, no. Save files have been changed to use a new format. There've been enough changes to the game that it's worth restarting anyways

Q. Will there be any more major updates after this?

A. I highly doubt it. There may be a few more patches to add minor features and fix major bugs, but nothing beyond that

Q. Will there ever be a Steam version?

A. If you give me $100 (/j). I'll even add achievements (/srs).

The game will automatically check if you're using a controller and will adjust prompts accordingly (this can be disabled in the settings)
